GINO BORDIN ...Virtuose de la guitare hawaienne
( thank you to Pascal Mesnier for the above photo)
Gino Bordin, Italian born Parisian wizard of the Hawaiian guitar is a great favourite of ours. His recording career spanned the years from about 1927/28 to the late 1950s . Like several other Parisian guitarists his early years included spells playing banjo with some of the leading musette bands.
By the late 20s Gino had pretty much abandoned the banjo and switched to the Hawaiian guitar and soon became a star on the Paris stage , on radio and on hundreds of 78 records. The list of labels he recorded for is huge ...Parlophone, Odeon, Perfectaphone, Cristal, Decca, Discum, MP, Pagode, Atout, Polydor, Pacific, Elite, Pathé, Idéal, Gladiator, Colisée, Unix, Salabert, Inovat ...the lsit goes on.
Until recent years only one or two Gino recordings have been available on reissue projects but now there is the Paris Plages d'Hawaii compilation with 15 Gino sides and also the Virtuose de la guitare hawaïenne project entirely devoted to him. Both are essential in our book
